Frequently Asked Questions

- How do I get to D.C.? Where do I stay?
- Check out the boards on this site on which madder'n hells can exchange information about transportation and lodging.
- What if Congress is already holding Downing Street Memos (DSM) hearings when we get to D.C.?
- Ah, wouldn't this be nice? In such a case, we would still descend daily upon the Capitol and attend the hearings until their conclusion.
- What do the madder'n hells who attend the hearings do?
- As soon as the Republicans (or shill Democrats) begin their whitewashing, make your dissatisfaction known. Don't be profane, but don't be shy, either. Coordinate your approach with your fellow madder'n hells before you enter the room. If you are arrested, DO NOT resist; you don't want to get hit with a resisting arrest charge, or hit, period. Waiting madder'n hells will then take your spot in the hearing room audience (in theory).
- Who will help us if/once we get arrested?
- We're still working on that one; stay tuned.
- What do we do outside the Capitol each day?
- We publicize the dickens out of the DSM with signs, banners, T-shirts, caps, leaflets, chants, street theatre, whatever. We do not block access to or exits from the Capitol. We aren't there to shut down the Capitol's business, but rather to help it be properly conducted, which it hasn't been for years. Just consider us as one million assistants!
- What if Congress agrees to our demand for hearings, but they won't start for, say, several weeks?
- This is a sticky wicket. It probably is not realistic to expect enough madder'n hells to stay in D.C. for three or four weeks to then further stay on and attend the hearings. However, if indeed one million or so of us do show up initially, there are other hearings we can "energetically" attend, which I would suggest doing for at least a week while the rest of us hold vigil outside the Capitol. You never know what'll happen when a million fed-up folks are on hand.
- What if Congress refuses our demand?
- We can't "physically" force Congress to hold hearings. 'Course, it may take several days for this message to get into our suddenly thick skulls.
- Are we going to have to stand out there all day, every day?
- At the Capitol, I would strongly suggest trading shifts with other madder'n hells, or at the very least, taking occasional breaks, to remain as fresh as possible. Plus, there likely will be no porta-potties set up.
- What if the cops prevent us from getting to the Capitol?
- Do the best you can do. This is where our resourcefulness and quick thinking come into play. If one route is blocked, try another.
- What time do we show up each day? Leave?
- Vary your "starting time," but it should be sometime in the a.m. Leave when the Capitol is empty or nearly so.
- What about the media?
- If the whoreporate media miraculously cover this and ask you for comments, be as pleasant and informative as possible. Otherwise, it is up to us to pull out all the stops and be our own media. Take advantage of whatever media resources/outlets you can think of to help get word of our actions out to the rest of America: photos, reports, essays, letters to editors, call-ins to radio/TV shows, interviews, websites, open publishing, documentaries, films, etc.
- How do we communicate in D.C.?
- If you have access to the 'Net, check this site (under "Announcements") for the latest updates. If not, we'll have to do some sort of cell phone text messaging thing. (I guess I'll finally have to break down now and get a cell phone and learn about 21st century communications. After I get up to speed, that second sentence should be clarified before 9/26.)
- What do we do with our trash?
- Pack it in, pack it out. Try to leave your area cleaner than how you found it.
- What if not enough madder'n hells materialize?
- We go home and let history select another date.
- What's with the ads above the logo on the front page, especially the pro-Dubya one?
- Sigh. Just goes to show ya, nothing's truly free in this world. In exchange for registering the site with Netfirms, they get to run whatever ads they want up there. Next time I pay the ten bucks for a domain name.
There are instructions for removing the ads (using Firefox browser) in our message board under 'General Comments'.
