Dear Madder'n Hells,

Well, that didn't last long: the madder'n hells is (are?) dead. The plan to swarm the Capitol to demand that Congress hold hearings on the Downing Street Memos and then show up every day en masse afterwards is no more.

I have clearly bitten off WAY more than I can chew.

I will spare you most of the gory details. Suffice it to say I have become an insane man in a very short time trying to spearhead this. It is also clear we would have nowhere near enough (let alone one million) madder'n hells show up in D.C. to prosecute our plan, a fact sharply driven home by the e-mail I got the other day from VoteToImpeach, a well-supported organization that has been planning their actions for months for which they expect "tens of thousands" to show up at the White House from September 24 through 26.

The madder'n hells "formal" organization consists of Lois (the webmistress) and me.

I stated in the first madder'n hells article that I've never been a good or mediocre or even poor organizer, and I should have made my point much more clear by saying, "Hey, here's an idea. Anybody want to take it?" My going ahead and assuming the leader/organizer mantle anyway was a */big/* mistake.

I also wrote that I have a public voice and would use it. It may be public, but it sure hasn't been persuasive. Getting even cursory responses to numerous e-mails and phone calls to various pertinent organizations and elected officials has been an almost non-stop exercise in maximum futility.

I apologize for any false hopes I may have raised. It would be far worse, though, to continue with something that has every earmark of a non-starter. Some may call that pessimistic or defeatist; after spending many, many hours trying to hammer out even the smallest of details these past few weeks, I would call it realistic.

Sometimes an idea is just an idea. This is one of them.
